Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few questions we are commonly asked about our organization. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out through our Contact Us page.

What is consulting?

The reason that so many people are confused by consulting is a result of how diverse and wide-ranging the industry is. At its core, consulting is about helping organizations to solve problems. Organizations draw upon consultants to gain external advice and access specialized expertise. This can span across a variety of focuses from strategy, to HR, to financials, to management, to marketing, to technology, to sustainability. All of these different types of consulting can happen in nearly any industry imaginable: healthcare, education, tech, energy, government, and agriculture. Consulting is for anyone who likes variety, is good at solving problems, and wants to make an impact. It is an industry that many people pursue for a short period of time to help them develop both personally and professionally, and then pursue a range of exit opportunities.

Why does LCG focus on consulting?

We focus on consulting because it is a tool kit where one can learn: problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. The skills consulting builds allows anyone to be an agent of change in any industry. If the time comes and you decide consulting is not for you then you have a valuable toolkit and set of experiences that can be widely applied.

Do I have to be a business student to join?

No, you absolutely do not have to be a business student. In fact, we pride ourselves on our diversity across many areas of study. All students, from all majors, at the University of Colorado Boulder are welcome to apply.

I have numerous academic and extra-curricular involvements. What is the time commitment like?

Most LCG analysts are highly involved across campus. As result, we make membership as flexible as possible. We hold weekly meetings every Monday from 8:00-9:00pm for our membership. Incoming Junior Analysts (JAs) will attend additional meetings from 7:00-8:00pm prior to the general meeting for the first semester. Aside from meetings, all other involvement within Leeds Consulting Group is what you make of it - community events, exclusive company networking, and client engagements.

What is an engagement?

Engagements are at the heart of what we do at Leeds Consulting Group. We give our members the opportunity to work with real clients, solving their problems and helping them make a difference. Each semester we work with at least three clients, allowing members to apply their learned consulting and casing skills to real clients' problems in a range of sectors. Any LCG analyst has the opportunity to be on an engagement. Please review our Clients page for more information.

How do I get involved?

We hold recruitment periods twice per year, once at the beginning of each semester. Please review our Join page for more details about the application process.
